How to use the DiscipleKids storybook at home or in class

These 50 stories are Scripture-based: each one is built around a single Bible verse, quoted from the New International Version (NIV). Most are original stories with fictional characters, written to make a verse easy for a young child to picture — they say “Inspired by…”. Stories that retell an account recorded in Scripture say “Based on…”. Reading the verse straight from your own Bible afterwards helps children learn the difference.

Discussion questions

Use two or three after any story — never all six.

  1. 1.What happened in this story? Can you tell it back to me in your own words?
  2. 2.Which part of the story felt most like something that could happen to you?
  3. 3.What does the Bible verse say? What do you think it means?
  4. 4.The characters in this story are made up — what true thing about God does the story help us see?
  5. 5.Is there someone you could be kind to this week, like the characters were?
  6. 6.What is one thing you want to ask God for after reading this?
